Artist Notes: Melnik Echoes is a montage of interior architectural details I saw in Melnik, Bulgaria. In Melnik, as in all other Bulgarian houses of the upper middle class during the Revivalist period, walls and ceilings were painted by hand. This abstract painting combines a typical wall treatment and a ceiling pattern. I realized that the original work was done freehand, not with stencils, as I painted what I saw. No two flowers are exactly alike. The painting is acrylic on stretched canvas on heavy duty stretchers, with painted sides; a frame is not necessary.

This original abstract painting is available online for $1,000 at
