Artist Notes: "In The World 10: Winter, Afghanistan and New York," is the tenth in my series "In The World." I hope the paintings evoke connection, and maybe a strong feeling in the viewer. This contrasts a portrait of an Afghan woman in the snow and snowy Afghan hills, with a winter view on my 17th floor, New York City terrace in the snow.
The caption that accompanied the photo of the woman was "Heavy snow began falling after the [2009] new year; 1300 Afghans are estimated to have died from cold this winter." I had permission to use the photo as a basis for my painting from the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).
The painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, with painted sides, so a frame is not necessary. Free shipping in the United States. $1,600
